What Is Repetitive Strain Injury?
Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is a term used to describe pain and discomfort caused by repeated movements or prolonged strain on muscles, tendons and joints.
RSI commonly develops when the same movement is performed frequently over time without adequate rest or variation. It is often associated with activities such as computer work, typing, manual tasks or repetitive sports movements.
Over time, repeated stress on tissues can lead to irritation and discomfort in areas such as the wrists, forearms, elbows, shoulders or neck.
Common Symptoms
People experiencing RSI may notice:
- Aching or discomfort in the affected area
- Muscle tightness or fatigue
- Pain during repetitive movements
- Weakness in the affected limb
- Stiffness after prolonged activity
Symptoms often develop gradually and may worsen if the underlying strain continues.
How We Help
At The Bromley Physiotherapy and Injury Rehab Clinic, we assess movement patterns, muscle function and activity habits to identify the factors contributing to your symptoms.
Treatment may include:
- Exercises to improve strength and endurance
- Mobility work to improve movement
- Soft tissue techniques to reduce muscle tension
- Advice on posture, workstation setup and activity modification
The aim is to reduce strain on affected tissues, improve movement patterns and help prevent symptoms from returning.
